Sessions missed in the blog

March 3, 2011. LEADERSHIP SKILLS FOR HANDLING GENDER ISSUES IN LABOUR. Dr. Poonam S. Chauhan, Senior Fellow, VVGNLI. (Reddin's 3D Style Model)
We were tested for our leadership skills and it turned that many of us get the highest score s Missioners., which is not good foe effective leadership. It is rather good to be developer and a bureaucrat in some extent or to be a Benevolent Autocrat even. Buy I have more scores in the right side altogether so I consider it is good for leaders.
Deserter - 1
Missionary - 12
Autocrat - 6
Compromiser - 7
Bureaucrat -5
Developer - 9
Benevolent Autocrat - 7
Executive - 9
26 vs 30

Prof. Sasikumar conducted today's sessions as one of the lecturers did not fell well today. That was an interesting lecture aboutCPI - Consumer Price Index and the
difference between absolute and real wage. These are indicators of our salary increasing (absolute wage) and what as a customer we can buy for that increased salary (real wage)
Informal sector takes a big part of Labour Force and the report on it can be found on www.nceus.nic.in

8th of March. "Prohibition of the SH of women at the workplace"

This even was devoted to the celebration of the International Women's Day. Chair person Prof Saraswati Raju from Jawaharlal Hehru University in Delhi introduced Naina Kapoor - Advocate, Equality Consultatnt & Lawyer, Guargon. Who told participants about Indian Acts. Then advocate Devika Singh, Senior Associate & Team Leader conducted open discussion about existing sexual harasment. This is very subjective and very often we shoud consider cultural tradition as well in order not to mix just good relationship with SH. And the line where the good relationship ends and SH begins is also vague. E.g if your boss invited for dinner whether accept it for the first time or refuse? That's a problem and very often women appeal to the acts when it has happened. It would be worth to prevent it, e.g when she gets just text messages or some pictures of the doubtful content.
Then 6 countries where the Act against sexual harassment exist made their presentations: Guatemala, Peru, Uruguay, Ghana, Ethiopia and Malaysia. Along with the definition of the SH in their Acts they showed some statistical data as well.
Even in the countries where there is no law against SH there are some rules of appropriate behaviour and conduct and the administration of the organisation could explain thee rules to employees and avoid SH. That is I think should be done in our country.

5 March, 2011

Hi. It has been long time since I could not write here. In the hostel where we live there are only 2 computers with internet and number of participants are 29, so you can imagine how long one should wait in a line for his turn to use PC.
Today 5 sightseeings to Delhi were amazing!
1. Bahai Temple or Lotus Temple. which I loved most of all. Apart it being very beautiful and accept all people wanted to pray regardless religious accessory that Temple is built in the shape of a lotus and my name is also means Lotus flower in Uzbek))
2. Kutub Minar which was built in 11 century and consists of several our ancestors' tombs as well.
3. Indira Gandhi Memorial. It is a place where she lived in the period of being the prime-minister together with son Rajive and his wife Sonia and son and daughter. We saw the clothes they wore, they were killed in; the prizes and presents and certificates presented by other countries presidents and prime-ministers. I have known a lot of facts I did not know before.
4. India Gate
5. Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (Gandhi Darshan)

ITEC Program. Training "Gender Issues in Labor"

This is a program offered by Indian Embassy all over the world. Actually ITEC offers more than 100 different programs in different fields. And I have chosen this because I wanted to know more about gender and especially in the country where the head of the state was a woman - Indira Gandhi.
But during 2 days before the course started we just saw some interesting places which I would like to describe and later to upload on the Internet.
Day 1 - Coming to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The flight itself was not too long - about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Time difference between Uzbekistan and India is just half an hour (our time is back). We flew from Tashkent at 2.15 pm and were in Delhi 5.45 pm, where we were met by taxi and driven to the V.V. Giri National Labour Institute. NOIDA where our institute is situated is 1 hour driving from the airport. Too many cars and it seemed to me no any rules on the roads and drivers srive sooo fast! The hostel did not meet my expectations but I managed to get used to the conditions there)))) You have to try to find pluses everywhere and then you may enjoy your life!!! It was very cold in my country (-10 C) and the fact that it is +18-20 make me happy. By the time I will back to my country there will be spring.
Next day was another enjoyable thing- I met here people from 21 different countries and I like to make friends so I was lucky to meet them. Together we went to Old Delhi and visited Joma Masjid - Moslim Mosk, took pictures there. You are allowed to enter just with the special dress with long sleeves and with no shoes on. After that we went to Humayun's Tomb the building of which is very similar to our constructions in kishlaks - made of stone and others. The structure of the building is the same as Taj Mahal - when you look at the water in fron of the Palace you may see its reflaction there - it is amasing. I look forward to seeing Taj Mahal.
Day 2. March 1 - the fist day of our training. We are acquainted with faculty memebrs and course agenda, distributed living allowances. And the first presentation was devoted to the distingushing terms sex and gender, a case study is given and we have to define who is male and who is female. We chose statement whether they were related to sex or gender and very often it was confusing.Sex is a biological and gender is a social concept we know but still it is difficult to tell.
Tomorrow is Indian Holiday (Radha God) and there is no sessions.
